Las Torres de Cabo Huertas
In Alicante, Spain, there is a rocky cape called El Cabo de las Huertas. In the past it used to be a very fertile ground with lots of fruit and nut trees. The owners of the “fincas” used to build these towers to protect their produce from pirates, who were in the habit of coming onto the land and stealing the fruit. From these towers, they could see the pirates coming and if they were threatened, they could hide in there — since the walls are very thick. Currently they are protected and owned either by the government or private individuals.
